Bengaluru: Renowned spine surgeon Dr. Ramesh Dalwai successfully treated a 71-year-old female patient suffering from chronic low back pain for over four years. The patient, who had a history of multiple falls at home, had developed an Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fracture (OVCF) that led to a visible kyphotic deformity (midline prominence) and severe disability, limiting her basic daily activities.
Despite multiple comorbidities including Diabetes, Hypertension, and Coronary Artery Disease, Dr. Dalwai performed a complex surgical correction and fixation. Post-operative results showed a dramatic restoration of the spine's sagittal balance, reducing the patient's forward lean. At her three-month follow-up, the patient reported significant relief, proving that even in geriatric cases with severe disability (ODI score of 55%), precision surgery can restore independence.
